The Hessel Heritage House is a historical landmark of the Les Cheneaux Islands, representing years of memories in the area. Everyone is familiar with the big red house on the corner of M-134 and Pickford Avenue, but what lies behind it was once vital to the survival of the community. An old icehouse lies on the property, which was entirely vital to the fishing industry before the days of the icebox or freezer. We are dedicated to preserving the history of the property, which was established in 1895. Now in the main house, there lies a gift shop and grocery. There, you can find preserved antiques vital to the history of the area, get a cold drink, and learn everything we can tell you about the story behind this marvelous property!
